ABSTRACT

Joseph Wolpe, M.D., D.Sc, received his medical degree in 1939 from the University of Whitwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is Distinguished Professor, Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Psychology, and Visiting Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. A recipient of the Distinguished Scientific Award for Applications of Psychology from the American Psychological Association and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Phobia Society, he is a James McKeen Cattell Fellow of the American Psychological Society and a Distinguished Member of Psi Chi. Dr. Wolpe is one of the leading practitioners of behavior therapy. He has written seven books and coedited two, has more than 500 professional publications to his credit, and is the cofounder of the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry.
