ABSTRACT

A l t h o u g h the influence of family, school, and c o m m u n i t y for good or e v i l has long been recognized, the precise processes by w h i c h these social e n v i - ronmental factors modify behavior have been only vaguely ident i f ied . Social network analysis as developed i n anthropology and sociology, c o u p l e d w i t h social ecological observations and social learning pr inc iples , goes a long way toward p r o v i d i n g a theoretical f ramework that can be frui t ful ly u t i l i z e d i n investigations of a w i d e variety of social behaviors at quite different levels of behavioral specificity, as is demonstrated i n this v o l u m e .
