ABSTRACT

This paper provides a brief overview of teaching and learning principles common to all adult learners and then discusses the latest research findings and their implications for adapting teaching materials and methods for the elderly. Sensory abilities, cognitive abilities, motor dexterity, developmental tasks, Cohort influences, and the current situation in which the older person exists are included. Summary tables of key information are provided throughout the text for easy reference. Guides for assessment of the older adult, aids for evaluating educational materials, and a list of resources for teaching the older adult are provided in the appendix.
