ABSTRACT

A consciousness-raising group for women therapists began in Los Angeles, which went on for approximately 18 months and was an incredibly eye-opening and self-empowering experience. A small group of us formed Feminist Psychological Associates, based on our consciousness-raising experience together, and began to give workshops for other women professionals. There were national feminist therapy conferences which were held in Colorado. Feminist therapy was a growing discipline. Every day, it seemed, more and more women were announcing their participation in the emerging movement and saying the same things all around the country. Feminism was trying to establish itself throughout psychology and force psychology to look at our new ideas and our new information. The Association for Women in Psychology was formed and then the Division of the Psychology of Women in the American Psychological Association.
