ABSTRACT

The following emerged in response to Brothers’ (1991) article. A central thread was the crucial importance of recognizing the essential humanness of all of us coupled with the importance of fostering our growth as individuals and as psychotherapists in becoming “more fully human.” The backdrop to that theme was its alternative war, the consequence of our shift from an I-thou relationship with the world to an I-it relationship with the world.

“Will you love me?”

“Dare I love you?”

“Can I trust that you love me?”

“Will you accept my love?”
