ABSTRACT

Menopause is an inevitable part of every woman’s growth and development. As such, menopause is a normal physiological process. Within this process, however, there is considerable variation in individual response to the physiological influence of changing hormone levels. Although some women experience few or no symptoms other than cessation of menses, other women are severely debilitated by hot flashes and depression. Menopause refers to the actual cessation of menstruation and is said to occur after a woman has had no menstrual bleeding for at least one year. Multiple regression analysis was performed entering the control variables education and employment and then all independent variables. Since education and employment made no significant contribution to the variance in number and frequency of menopausal symptoms, they were eliminated in later analyses.
