ABSTRACT

The International Energy Agency writes in its World Energy Outlook 2006 , that the continuation of the current energy-political trend is expensive, harms the environment and threatens security. It criticizes the dependence on fossil fuels, the growing market power of a few energy-exporting countries, and the risk of climate change. However, what are the alternatives: Is the world ripe for a rediscovery of nuclear energy? Or can renewable energy sources, such as the sun, wind, water and biomass, satisfy the world's growing hunger for energy?
