ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains the Digital Television and Switchover Policies in Europe. Yu-li Liu begins by reviewing the major paradigms in the communications laws. By examining the American silo model and the European horizontal model, criticisms of these two regulatory approaches are also presented to see how they may fit the current development of convergence. The book also discusses The Impact of Digital Convergence on the Regulation of New Media in Korea: Major Issues in New Media Policy, by Euisun Yoo and Hyangsun Lee examines key issues under convergence in Korea. The book discusses major changes in the media regulatory systems, such as the background of the recent adoption of a dual regulatory system with the Ministry of Future Creation and Science (MFCS) and the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) for media businesses.
