ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a breakdown of the key elements of each Approved Document, showing not only the regulation, but also an overview of the actual requirement ‘in a nutshell’. This acts as a good starting point to understanding the regulations, and it is then expanded upon in much more detail by specific building elements in Chapter 6. The current editions of the Approved Documents are shown in Table 3.1. All statutory instruments can be accessed on the UK government legislation website (https://www.legislation.gov.uk) and the Planning Portal. They can also can be purchased from The Stationery Office or RIBA.
