ABSTRACT
The notion of knowledge is one of the most widely used concepts in everyday life, in scientific discourse, in policy discussions and in reflections about science and technology. Put more formally, the term knowledge typically performs the speech-act of commending what it describes (cf. Sartori, 1968).
