ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a very simple feature: sounds. Although playing a sound is very easy with Corona software development kit (SDK), it is not always easy to find or create sounds. In the game programmer universe, a sound is a file containing some sound data. Corona supports a few different sound file formats, but to have a fully cross-platform game, people have to use MP3 and WAV. A WAV sound is heavy; an MP3 sound is light. MP3 is the better sound format for games. On the tool side, people must have Audacity, which is an audio editor useful for cutting, converting, or tweaking sounds. The Audacity is available for both Windows and Mac. The purest way for people to get sound effects is to record or create sounds by themselves using tools. However, if people want to create some fun arcade sounds, use SFRX, which will help them to create random arcade sounds.
