ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the consultative work that contributed to the development of a school psychology training program at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE) in Vietnam. Public officials as well as practitioners in Vietnam recognized the need for a school psychology training program and also identified their country's readiness for such a program to be developed. The program represents the collaborative work of many professionals whose individual contributions collectively established the first formal training program of its kind in the country. As it was to be the first school psychology training program in Vietnam, the faculty and administrators at HNUE did not have any clear models in their country to follow and decided to reach out to international colleagues. Future directions for the field of school psychology in Vietnam should include constant reevaluations of the developing training programs and school psychology practice in the country and dissemination of new information.
