ABSTRACT

To provide appropriate support to the students, adaptive and personalized learning environments select different learning contents, customize the presentation of that content, and select appropriate navigational approaches, to suit specific needs of a student at a certain time. A variety of learning content is therefore needed for each concept covered in the subject matter, preferably in different formats, so that the adaptivity and personalization mechanism can select appropriate content. This approach puts additional demands for creating vast amount of learning content on the teachers, who are already overloaded. This situation has given rise to the need for sharing and reusing learning content among teachers, particularly for those subjects that are commonly taught at many institutions. In this chapter, we shall look at the concept of reusability. We shall discuss how teachers can find learning contents created by other teachers, how they can make their own learning content available to others, and how reusability can go beyond sharing of learning content to learning activities and even learning scenarios.
