ABSTRACT
Historically, the responsibility for design and the disputes that subsequently arose were those of either the architect or the engineer. Today, however, design liability can attach to an architect, an engineer, builders and their subcontractors, sometimes reverting to the employer where it makes a choice during design, sometimes even a supplier in circumstances where they may not have even thought they were doing any design work at all.182
