ABSTRACT

This chapter explains why a coach should plan and describes how session plans are constructed. It discusses the Plan, Lead, Reflect process and reflective practice. The chapter explores the purpose of evaluations and how the coach should construct an evaluation. It describes why block planners are used and how to construct them. A range of differing types of session plans exist, but they should all contain certain basic elements. For the purpose of this section Plan, Lead, Reflect will be used to explain the basic principles behind the coaching process. The chapter discusses the pictorial representation of the coaching process tri-cycle. The construction of block planners is a core aspect of the planning process. Generally, the block planner consists of a 4-6 week block of work, and is known as a meso cycle. Ghaye proposes some guiding principles of reflective practice in the chapter.
