ABSTRACT

This chapter describes types of technology that can aid the coach. Technological advances have provided the coach with a range of tools to support the performance analysis process. The coach should have a good understanding of centre of gravity (CoG) principles because changes in CoG can determine balance and influence the performer's ability to execute some skills. The chapter outlines the basic principles of biomechanics and explains the use of notational analysis. Biomechanics is the scientific discipline concerned with the forces acting on the athlete and the effects produced by these forces, and can be sub-divided into kinematics, kinetics, anthropometrics and kinesiology. Kinematics is the form of motion with respect to time.
