ABSTRACT

A number of actions have been taken by wine and gourmet regions throughout Europe to prevent drink driving and, hence, to avoid losing customers due to the drink driving dilemma. In a drink driving study of 2010, a considerable 53 per cent of the drivers caught with excessive blood alcohol concentration (BAC) stated that they had consumed alcohol in a restaurant, bar or at an event; 8.5 per cent of the respondents had consumed alcohol in a disco and 4 per cent at work. The problem, and, thus, research gap is, though, that there is a lack of studies on whether or not the measures which have been taken so far to fight drink driving, and its consequences, meet stakeholders', and, in particular, customers' needs. The main advantages of the concept of the Wohnothek a special and innovative way of offering accommodation are the creation of both a 'holiday feeling' and an image of sustainability.
