ABSTRACT

Isidro Huaranca was distributing water to farmers who came to claim their right to irrigation. He said that the weather had been cold that day. He told how the climate has changed during the last years. It is getting colder, but also warmer. During the day, it is warmer; there is a terrible, unbearable heat. During the night, it is freezing. The last years, there has been frost in the months when it did not usually freeze. These changes affect the production of plants, which are being destroyed by the heating sun and by the frost. Therefore, the plants do not grow as they used to. The most delicate plant is the broad bean plant. If the flowers fall off, because of the frost, it does not flower again. The potato plant, however, is more resistant if it freezes, it can sprout once more, though it is only 50 per cent, the growth is not the same any more.
