ABSTRACT
A number of factors must be considered to have influenced the methods adopted by Herodotos in telling his long and complicated story. Most of these have already come under brief scrutiny; they include the influence of epic poetry on narrative style, the vast variety of topics covered, the audience(s) aimed at, and the method of publication.
