ABSTRACT

65This article notes that the Sephardi Synagogue songs that have been handed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years have recently gained momentum and absorbed various influences as a result of the ingathering of exiles to modern Israel.

It also draws attention to the role of the Cantors and the impact of the synagogue on the yearly cycle and the congregant’s lives.

The impact of composers and artists active in this field is examined. Today the song-culture of the synagogue has left the confines of intimacy and now enters public life as a result of media exposure.
