Adleriansusetheverbdisciplinetodescribeaprocessof makingapersonadisciple,andsotodisciplineapersonisto train,educate,develop,instruct,teach,oredifysomeoneto think,feelandactasyoudo.Consequently,inthissectionto disciplineachildinschoolmeanstodealwithchildrensothat theywillacceptthevaluesandcopythebehavioroftheir teachers.Wedonotmeanscolding,threatening,demeaning, embarrassing,spankingorotherpsychologicallyorphysically painfulmethods,thatAdleriansrejectasuselessandharmful, eventhoughttheymayappeartoworkforashorttimeinsome cases.Punishmentofanykindinschoolscanbreakthespirit ofchildren,makethemintosneaksandliars,getthemtohate school,andcangenerateattitudesthatwilllaterharmboth themandothers.Webelievethatteachersusesuchineffective andinefficientmethodsreluctantlyandoutofdesperation, simplybecausetheydon'tknowwhatelsetouse.
