ABSTRACT
Man’s interest in the origins of human attributes has probably been strong from the time his intelligence first allowed him to reflect upon the nature of things and the relationships between events in his environment. Increasingly, sheer conjecture on the topic has been supplanted by biological and archaeological findings, by formal theory, and by the intrusion of research programs into the study of human attributes and skills once held to be unique, immutable, and/or god-given.
