Stimulus Attributes and Memory
This chapter deals with the effects of item attributes in learning and memory situations other than paired associates, which will be considered in the next chapter. As in the discussion of perception in Chapter 4, comparisons will be made between variables related to the different theoretical levels of meaningrepresentational, referential, and associative. Attention centers on imageryconcreteness, however, because it is conceptually related most directly to imagery as a symbolic process. The variable also provides a convenient reference point around which the discussion of memory can be organized, consistent with the emphasis given to imagery throughout this book.
