ABSTRACT

It has emerged more clearly than ever that to be effective an analytic re lationship requires a deep emotional engagement between patient and ana lyst. The ongoing paradigmatic shifts from objectivism to constructivism and from intrapsychic to relational field theories have provided the concep tual footholds for this realization. Levenkron adds to the growing literature in delineating important features of an analytic interaction, focusing spe cifically on enactment, intersubjective relatedness, and affective honest communication. She further delineates these features in her case illustra tion, meaningfully amplified through her sharing detailed subjective expe riences of both patient and analyst.
