ABSTRACT
The connections of content to form, particularly when free association is most free, are persistently shaped and reshaped so that juxtapositions, reversals, and ambiguities. The other spectral qualities both expose and hide, advance and delay the ongoing edge-of-awareness inquiries the free associator is almost but not quite ready to acknowledge. Even proceeding with whatever respect people can manage for how one thing connects with another, they shall not always be sure how things connect, why they connect, and how those connections — people call them "free associations" — advance self inquiry. Looking one way, the author see free association producing pop-ups for inquiry. Looking another, since those pop-ups had been shaped in the first place by the free associators edge-of-awareness inquiries, they help to find and to help the free associator to find what the free associator was right along trying, and trying not, to inquire into.
