ABSTRACT

As an analysis advances, inquiry becomes more insistent and consistent, and directions clearer. And though I do not remark directly on my inquiry but only on my patient’s, my patient knows — without dwelling on it — that the comments and questions of the commentator and questioner reveal at least as much about the commentator and questioner as about the one commented on and questioned. Through my patient’s efforts, then, and mine, our edge-of-awareness inquiries are made more and more coincident.
