TABLE 3 Summary of Discourse Interactions by Teachers and Students During a Peer Critique Session in Year 1

Table 3 shows that the class conversation about questions was fairly wide ranging. For example, feedback to the third group centered around issues of phrasing and word choice, whereas feedback to the fourth group centered around eliminating yes and no answers (i.e., rewording to be more interesting or fruitful). By the end of this critique, students were anticipating the comments of their peers, revising questions as they presented them to make them more specific or to address other issues raised during the course of conversation.
