Abnormal Psychology is one of the most popular undergraduate psychology courses, and many students would undoubtedly report that it is one of the most interesting. Abnormal Psychology is an upper-level course. Implementation of a volunteer experience in abnormal psychology admittedly requires substantial planning and consultation. An informal review of standard textbooks and course syllabi in abnormal psychology reveals that although suicide is often mentioned, the degree of coverage is at best uneven. The revised facts on suicide quiz (RFOS) have been a useful educational tool in our undergraduate abnormal psychology class. In addition to using the RFOS in undergraduate abnormal psychology courses, we have also found it appropriate within the context of a lecture to undergraduates in a course on preventative community mental health and occasionally in other psychology courses. The program has continued through a succession of instructors and mental health volunteer services coordinators.
