ABSTRACT

Undergraduate involvement in research beyond a research methods course is a valuable experience, especially for students interested in graduate school (Kiemiesky, 1984; Purdy, Reinehr, & Swartz, 1989). Purdy et al. found that most experimental and clinical psychology graduate programs rated research experience as a "very important" admissions criterion ; most counseling programs rated research as "moderately important." Unfortunately, only a small minority of undergraduates have the opportunity to gain research skills (Baird, 1990; Hartmann, 1990).
