Children's Eyewitness Memory Research: Implications From Schema Memory and Autobiographical Memory Research
Pages 14

Goodman and Reed (1986, p. 326) have noted that children (over age 5) rarely give schema-inconsistent information in free recall. This is in keeping with the schema framework, which predicts few recalls of non present schema inconsistent information. One presumes that many other studies in this area have data relevant to this issue, but have chosen not to mention it because it would amount to saying that something you would not expect did not occur. However, this experimental condition has extremely important analogs in real-world cases of child testimony and so ought to be included in discussions of child eyewitness free-recall data.
