chapter  1
An Agenda for Research in Everyday and Emotional Memory
Pages 12

Goodman and Quas also show that maternal input at the time of encoding is critical in predicting memory for an emotional event in a medical setting. These researchers present data they collected as they observed children undergo a medical procedure, called a voiding cystourethrogram fluoroscopy (VCUG), that was fairly invasive but was also critical to children's physical well-being. The procedure enables urologists to use fluoroscopic filming to determine whether anatomical abnormalities are present in the bladder or urethra. The procedure involves urinary catheterization, filling, and then voiding of the bladder.
