ABSTRACT

Memory problems are frequently associated with neurological conditions. More than 30% of patients who have sustained a severe head injury, for example, will experience memory impairment. Those with progressive degenerative disease, particularly dementia, will almost certainly exhibit memory deficits sooner or later. Korsakoff’s syndrome, herpes simplex encephalitis, anoxia following cardiac arrest, and carbon monoxide poisoning are just some of the conditions that are likely to result in general memory impairment. A unilateral stroke may lead to material specific memory impairment.
