Matching Proprioceptive to Visual Speed
Pages 5

Design. Two experiments were done, each with the same design: treadmill speed as dependent variable, and flow speed and gait effort as independent variables. Flow speed consisted of five conditions, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8, 9/8, and 10/8 times 5 km/hour (the original setup was to vary around 3 km/h, but due to the curvature of the reflector the effective flow patterns were 1.65 times larger). In one experiment gait effort was operationalized by treadmill inclination angle (four conditions: 0, 5, 10, and 15 % inclination), in the other by forced step size when walking to the beats of a metronome (five conditions: 6/8,7/8, 8/8, 9/8, and 10/8 times the step frequency recorded for the subject when performing the matching task at 0 % inclination).
