ABSTRACT

The commentaries in this volume display a remarkably wide range of perspectives, reflecting their authors' various theoretical preferences and different backgrounds in social and cognitive psychology. They also show a diversity of focus, from a broad consideration of relationships of social to cognitive psychology in general (Ostrom) to a very specific treatment of empirical issues raised in my article (Bassili, Klein & Loftus). I am impressed by the thoughtfulness of all the comments. I am particularly happy to see that the ideas presented in the Target Article stimulated these individuals to cite data, raise criticisms, and express ideas which I in turn have found quite stimulating.
