ABSTRACT

The goal of this handout/homework is to assist lesbian and bisexual substance abusers in drawing parallels between the negative consequences of active addiction and their experience as a population of women who are oppressed because of their sexual orientation. In addition, the handout delineates positive results of both recovery from addiction and healing from the wounds of homophobia. Engaging in parallel process is useful for clients who are faced with similar internal and external experiences in more than one area of their lives. For example, by making connections among similar experiences, clients are able to apply the lessons learned in one area to another.
