ABSTRACT

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states that an employee is responsible for safety of himself and others. The purpose of a cover glass in a headshield is to protect the filter lens from infra-red rays. During manual metal-arc welding, electrode will be consumed faster if the welding current is decreased. A root bend test is applied to a butt welded joint in low carbon steel. It is an advantage to carry out manual metal-arc welding in the flat position rather than the horizontal-vertical position because the electrodes used may be bare wire. The nozzle used to direct the shielding gas onto the weld area in Tungsten arc gas shielded (TAGS) welding is made from aluminium. A macro-examination of a butt weld involves polishing and fracturing. Gas welding and cutting gives a more stable outlet pressure to the blowpipe, lack of penetration, excessive penetration, surface defects cracks, lack of fusion, inclusions, porosity or any other relevant defect.
