Psychomotor group therapy for demented patients in the nursing home

PSYCHOMOTOR THERAPY IN PSYCHO GERIATRICS We define psychomotor therapy as the treatment of people who are confronted with psychosocial problems, using movement activities and/ or special attention for bodily experiences (Vermeer and Sonius, 1976; Fahrenfort, 1986; van Coppenolle, 1989). Over the past twenty years, psychomotor therapy has developed rapidly in The Netherlands. As part of the psychosocial care offered in psychiatric hospitals, it is now a generally accepted and applied form of treatment.
