ABSTRACT
Though the Atlantic side of the British Isles presents almost as sea-dominated an environment as western Scandinavia, we have unfortunately no comparable series of rock carvings to tell us in what sort of craft the lively maritime activity of the prehistoric period was carried on. This activity must have received a further stimulus with the appearance in the fourth millennium BC of crop-and cattle-raising agriculturists.
