ABSTRACT

Reflecting abstraction by itself is already a sort of operation, one that pulls certain coordinations out of their context and retains them while leaving out the rest. By contrast, reflecting abstraction involves a continuous activity. This activity may remain unconscious, like the coordinations that it initially ranges over. But actualizing these coordinations leads at a certain level of development to complex instances of becoming conscious. Undoubtedly under the influence of the structures, reflected abstraction, which often lagged behind the actions of reflecting abstraction starts catching up with reflecting abstraction and consequently serves as a point of departure or a springboard for new constructions. Hence the common principle of the formation of novelties is reflecting abstraction that leads to generalizations, generalizations that for this very reason are constructive, not merely inductive or extensional like those yielded by empirical abstraction. With empirical abstraction, forms are molded by contents, which are given in experience and not created by the forms.
