The trainer may need to remind the group that only positive ways of getting another's attention are acceptable. It may be necessary for the trainer to identify a few items to get the group into the exercise. This can be done as a group exercise rather than as a dyadic exercise. The trainer may want to list the items as the group identifies them. The exercise helps to open dialogue about communication styles and skills. A master list of the items could be made to help all improve their listening skills. A poster could be made of some of the items and posted in a conspicuous place.
