ABSTRACT

This exercise promotes spirituality in couples and individuals, and creates a sense of caring and appreciation. The exercise helps to participants become more comfortable with silence and to recognize the therapeutic value of silence. Participants could also use paper and crayons to express the exercise if it is impossible to go on a nature walk. It may be necessary to distinguish between religiosity and spirituality. Some members may need special encouragement to be creative and to use fantasy during the exercise. Some may tend to see the two as synonymous and have difficulty if they have not ever thought through the differences. Too often, couples, family members, and co-workers do not take the time to reflect upon the importance of their relationships and what they mean to each other. The exercise provides couples/participants with a specific and structured time for enhancing spiritualness, appreciation, cooperativeness, and dialogue.
