ABSTRACT

This exercise designs to help the group or family to sharpen their skills at goal-setting and accomplishing whatever tasks are necessary to accomplish the goal. The emphasis is on communication, shared responsibilities, and building trust. In functional groups, all members work together to accomplish the common goal. It focuses on the process the group experiences to work toward the goal. It is important for the trainer to remain supportive and accepting toward the group or family. Discussion should focus on participant's feelings during the exercise, how they felt toward other group members, what they would do differently. Further discussion may include how the outcome of this exercise relates to other group goals. It is a valuable diagnostic exercise to identify roles within a group. The trainer should be silent during the exercise and speak only when safety precautions need to be enforced.
