ABSTRACT

This exercise promotes positive relationships and appreciation of self. Positive affirmation also is appropriate for other small groups as a rapport or group process activity. Research indicates that positive interactions are a key element in building better family relationships and individual self-esteem. The exercise is rich in positive stroking, and provides an opportunity for the family to experience positive interchanges. Positive affirmation teaches individuals how to communicate appreciation of others. Positive and caring attitude is important that the trainer be alert to the difficulty some individuals may have in being positive and appreciative of others. The trainer approaches the exercise with a positive and caring attitude. If the trainer encounters a participant who is unable to think in positive and appreciative terms about others, this usually marks someone who would benefit from individual counseling or therapy.
