ABSTRACT

By using three balls of yam, the group or family becomes more connected; this easily results in greater appreciation of each other. This exercise helps to foster a sense of positiveness and self-esteem and helps to promote a sense of togetherness. Having a sense of being valued and appreciated is crucial to all wholesome relationships. When humans are valued by others, they have better self-concepts, and are more beautiful and more competent. Begin the exercise by talking about positive communication, valuing others, the importance of a sense of appreciation, and how all humans are in things together. If anyone contributes negative remarks, caution him or her that this is to be a positive focus. Then the trainer briefly talks about the importance of positive communication, valuing others, and connections. The exercise varied by the number of rounds played, the sentence stems used in the different rounds, and what use is made of the compliments.
