ABSTRACT

This exercise helps bring congruence to perceptions of self by self and by others. By achieving greater congruence between the way they see their selves and the way others see us, the more likely they are to improve their relationships. Self-esteem means how people perceive themselves. Individuals need to become aware of how they view themselves as well as how others view them. Once these two goals are accomplished, opportunities for understanding and communication are enhanced. It increases self awareness and helps to relate personal awareness, lifestyles, and patterns of behavior and leisure activities. The exercise can be very effective in identifying how group members view themselves. Although the activity does not take much time, it lends itself to rich discussion of self-concept and self-esteem.
