ABSTRACT

The Standards of Care were unanimously endorsed by voice vote by the participants in the Third International Congress on the Treatment of Sex Offenders held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1994. In legal codes, crimes against nature and affronts to socially acceptable sexual behavior are criminalized and are regarded as behavior regarded sex offenses. These crimes have included statutory rape, violent rape, and sex offenses. For the most part, sex offenders may be fined, ordered to medical treatment, psychological or medical treatment, and/or imprisoned. Paraphilia is an erotosexual condition occurring in men and women who are responsive to, or dependent upon, an unusual or socially unacceptable stimulus in the imagery or fantasy for optimal initiation and maintenance of erotic-sexual arousal and the facilitation or attainment of orgasm. Psychological treatment refers to the array of therapies which have refers the array of been designed to treat sex offenders.
