ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the last two categories of sexual abuse: incest and long-term child abuse. In incest survivors, Ambivalence about how they feel about the abuser is a second and very upsetting reaction that needs to be confronted directly with the offending parents. Disclosing these feelings to anyone but the offending parents does not fully ventilate them. Too often, the incest survivor becomes revictimized by her/his own family, including the nonoffending parent and the siblings. This occurs since more often in incest than in any other sexual abuse, the entire socioeconomic base of the family is altered by the incestuous parent's imprisonment or being forced to leave the household and establish a new residence. Another form of incest that is being reported more frequently in the last ten or more years is that of sibling incest. Sexual behavior between siblings is often a normal developmentally experimental behavior.
