ABSTRACT

If symptoms are intolerable, or if there is a high risk of osteoporosis, or a diagnosis of osteoporosis, serious consideration should be given to hormone replacement. Being able to live postmenopausal years with a high quality of life is desirable. If a decision to use hormones is made, a care provider, nurse, or physician must be consulted at least once a year. Twice is even better if insurance coverage is available. Tailoring hormone treatment to a woman’s individual needs is complex. Side effects may occur that make the treatment seem worse than the symptoms.
