ABSTRACT

A woman who has ovulated will find that her temperature rises each cycle after ovulation. Measurement of body temperature, using the method of basal body temperature measurement (BBT) is a simple, inexpensive, and reliable means of detecting ovulation. During the past 10 to 15 years there has been a virtual explosion of newly developed techniques marketed to detect ovulation. Commercial products on the market are useful for women who want to absolutely pinpoint the LH surge so that they can either avoid pregnancy (by avoiding intercourse or using protection), or try to become pregnant. These ovulation predictors are not entirely accurate, and they are expensive.
