ABSTRACT

At the mouth of the Bay of Naples sits the island of Capri, a geographic jewel hailed throughout history for its splendor. In Greek mythology, it was said to be the home of the Sirens, those mystical maidens whose music lured love-drunk sailors to their deaths along the island’s jagged shores. In 1902, however, Capri’s allure led another man to his ruin, and this time he was no mythical invention.
